Vet CB's signed, but a young CB cut, Panthers should claim him

The Raiders have signed CB Joselio Hanson, but cut 2nd year CB DeMarcus Van Dyke (6' 0 3/4", 187) who ran a 4.28-40 at the 2011 Combine, and was their #81 draft pick in 2011. Van Dyke played in 14 games last season, starting 4 games. He had 12 tackles, 1 assist, 1 int., and 4 passes defended last season.

Cutting Van Dyke cuntinues the weekend trend by the Raiders of cutting their fastest CB's. They first cut CB Chimdi Chekwa (5' 11 3/4", 190), who was their #113 draft pick in 2011, but he has been re-signed to their Practice Squad. Chekwa ran an "offical" Combine 4.40-40, "unofficially" a 4.33-40, with a 1.47-10 yard split. Chekwa played in 4 games, with 1 start, before going on IR last season, and had 8 tackles, 2 of them assist, with 2 passes defended. They also cut 3rd year CB Brian McCann (5' 11", 185), who ran a Pro Day 4.29-40 in 2010, with 40.5 inch vertical jump. He played for the Cowboys, Ravens, and Raiders last season, and for the Ravens and Cowboys in 2010. McCann had 14 tackles, including 1 assist in 2010, with a 101 yard int return for a TD. He's also a good return man, with 20.6 yard punt return average on 8 punt returns last season, along with a 27.5 kickoff return average.

The only good vet CB still un-signed is probably Dominique Franks, and FS O. J. Atogwe. CB/S Owusu-Ansah Akwasi (6' 0 1/4", 207), who ran an "official" Combine 4.47-40, "unofficially" a 4.32-40, with a Pro Day 4.30-40, in 2010, was also cut. He also had around 7 kickoff/ punt returns for TD's in college, but he's very inexperienced, though he was the Cowboys #126 draft pick in 2010. The Panthers passes on him at least twice last season, when he was cut by the Cowboys, and Jaguars (claimed back by the Cowboys) last season, so it's pretty unlikely the Panthers will claim him.
