The Carolina Panthers head to Atlanta this week to take on the high-flying Falcons, and whether it's a win or a loss you're going to need something good for the game. This week Sir Pour wants to take a piece of home to the ATL, and something you can drink all game long.
Cottonwood Pumpkin Spiced Ale– Foothills Brewing Company
The brewery
Foothills Brewing started in 2004 in Winston-Salem, NC and has become one of the pre-eminent brew pubs in central North Carolina. Up until recently the Cottonwood brand was part of the Carolina Brewing Company (Mooresville, NC) but has since been put under the Foothills brand.
The brew
This time of year always screams 'pumpkin ale', and this is an absolute gem. You get a strong hit of those pumpkin pie flavors– cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, but you also taste the distinct nuttiness of the pumpkin too. Unlike many ales in the style it's supremely drinkable over time, boasting an ABV of 4.50%, this is one you can drink all game long without being knocked out by halftime.
How it relates to the game
The Carolina Panthers are going to need to get back to basics on Sunday, and go back to doing what they know best. No more cuteness, no more innovation– lets just run between the tackles, and set up the deep pass... it's not too difficult. So too Cottonwood Pumpkin Spiced doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, they simply stick to their formula, and do it better than most who try.
