The Panthers managed to retain all of their top preseason talent, as the 8 man practice squad was established today. This group comprises:
- WR Jared Green
- DT Nate Chandler
- OL Zack Williams
- OG Bryant Browning
- WR Lamond Bryant
- RB Armond Smith
- CB Ron Parker (new signing)
- TE Nelson Rosario
One player who also stays with the Panthers is RB Tauren Poole, who was waived/injured with post-concussion syndrome and subsequently joined Nate Ness, Lee Ziemba, and Brandon Hogan on injured reserve. This is a good situation for the Panthers who managed to keep both RBs who they utilized this preseason, without having to sacrifice another roster spot.
It's unfortunate for Poole, but he'll get a year to recover, and get paid while doing it. Retaining his rights is a huge for the Panthers and he'll get opportunities next year to prove he can be that 3rd RB. I think it's a shrewd move to gamble on the waived/injured designation, and it paid off.
Meanwhile the WR situation looks promising with both Jared Green and Lamont Bryant making the PS. Both are raw, but have serious talent, and could figure into the 53 depth next year.
