As far as Thomas Davis return from 3 ACLs surgeries on the same knee is going, so far it is going well. Actually after watching him play last night it going better than well. I'll be the first to admit I'm surprised, pleasantly surprised Davis is not only playing with speed but making plays:
"I didn't want to come in and just be another guy running around and just showing everybody that I was OK to run around," said Davis, whose most recent knee injury occurred Week 2 of last season. "I wanted to go out there and contribute, make plays..."It was a great feeling - preseason, regular season, whatever - to be back knowing everything I've been through."
The update starts here as I was able to add some GIFs of the plays I was referring too. I have all three impact plays mentioned:
Impact Play 1: Davis showed nice pursuit on a couple impact plays, the first being a sack of Mark Sanchez:
Impact Play 2: A little while later he knocked down a pass in the end zone. You can see Baker take the spot across the knees on this play which resulted in injury. I hate to see that...
Impact Play 3: He finished off a nice evening with a red zone stop of QB Mark Sanchez on 3rd down before he could score, forcing a FG attempt.
For the time being the Panthers plan to use Davis in this fashion, on 3rd down or other situations that they might need a wrinkle:
"The coaches did a great job of utilizing me in different situations. It's a way to work myself back into playing defense," Davis said. "You put so much work into preparing after a third ACL, and once you go out there and make a play, it's like a burden is lifted."
As Rivera says we need to keep this guy healthy and on the field, even if its on a limited basis for now. That apparently won't hinder Davis from making his presence felt.
So what do you think of adding the GIFs?
