Though both Steve Smith and Jon Beason will sit out the 3rd preseason game the good news is LB Thomas Davis will see his first action of the preseason:
Coach Ron Rivera announced Friday, via Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer, that the linebacker will be making the next step of his attempted comeback from a third torn ACL on the same knee. Davis has been bothered by a calf issue during training camp, but he practiced this week and got the green light to get back on the field for his first game since Week Two of last season.
I’m very glad to hear Davis will play and anxious to see how he does and what type of formations he plays. It’s not clear whether he will start but my guess he will relieve Luke Kuechly after he gets his plays in as well as come in on some the formations they have him targeted for.
Also, did anyone else think ‘Who is Jonathan Jones and when did he start working for the Observer?’ No need to wonder, it’s an oversight as the link goes to a player. Of course I guess he could now work for them? Ahhh…not worth the minimal search effort! ;)
