I have a question regarding the Cowboys.....and more specifically, Troy Aikman. I think it is safe to say that for most Panther fans, the Cowboys rank up there as one of our most despised opponents. For those that don't know, I am 25 years old. I wasn't a football fan during most of the 90s mainly because I was too young to understand what was going on. When the Cowboys won their first Super Bowl of the 90s in 1992, I was 5 years old. Growing up I always heard about Aikman and the Cowboys, how great they were, the Super Bowl, America's Team, etc etc etc. Aikman was always one of the trading cards that was held in high esteem, and all my friends wanted one. I've always assumed that he was some legendary, elite, awesome, amazing QB....and to be very honest, I never even bothered to actually LOOK at his career stats until yesterday.
I'm sure this won't be a surprise to most members on here, but I was shocked at what I saw. Career QB Rating of 81.6 and only had 11 more total TDs than turnovers. Statistically speaking, he is basically just Jake Delhomme except with three rings. I know that he played in a different era, before all of the modern rule changes that allow for more/easier passing, but still....those are some pretty lackluster numbers for someone who has enjoyed the status as a legendary retired QB. I know that Super Bowl rings always make a player memorable, but damn.....his reputation seems to be far more lofty than his stats suggest.
I realize that I'm hella late on this...however, looking up the career stats of players from bygone eras (especially Cowboys players) is pretty low on my priority list.
So my question is this: For those that are old enough to remember Aikman when he played, can you give me your opinion of him? His stats are pretty meh for his reputation, but I know that stats don't always tell the full story.
