Why not? Jeff Demps is one of the fastest men in the world and his days at Florida proves that he is just more than just a sprinter in football pads. The kid can play. During his days at Florida he - 5'7, 190 (with boots on) - put fear in the minds of defensive players and Def. Coordinators night in, and night out. He's not physically intimidating but speed is something that there's only one answer for, and that's speed...and not too many people in the NFL can run a 4.2 in the 40 (projected) and a 9.85-10.01 in the 100 (offical).

I've always been an advocate of speed, and besides an aging Steve Smith we don't have too much 'scary' speed (just got Murphy a few weeks ago, and yet to see him play a reg season gm). I don't want us to use Al Davis's strategy during the draft, or get people with pure speed but can't play but Demps is a low risk / high reward player who will only help the team out. The biggest argument that you can make is that there is no room on the roster, but he can be put anywhere (on the depth chart, at a skill position)...we can make room.

He can also come in and be our 3rd WR in the slot by the time the reg. season comes around. If not, we can use him as a returner with KP, takeover punt returns (although I'm a huge fan of Joe Adams), or us him on special plays like end-arounds and screen plays. There are so many things that we can use him for and for the longest Smitty has been our only player with electrifying speed, so I would absolutely love the idea of getting Demps for next to nothing, and I honestly think that with him on the team we are Superbowl bound. And it's better we get him and he scores for us, then someone else like the Bucs get him and we see him twice a year for 10 years.
