You Make the Call: WR depth chart

Well, this is the time of preseason during which we love to debate the 53 and the depth chart. 2012 is similar to last year in that there are once again many questions and opinions regarding how the WR's will shake out. To add a little twist, I want to submit two WR charts. First, I will predict how the opening day WR depth chart will look like. Second, I will list how I WISH it would look like.

Opening Day WR Depth Chart

1. Steve Smith

2. Brandon LaFell

3. Louis Murphy

4. Seyi Ajirotutu

5. Kealoha Pilares

6. Joe Adams

PUP David Gettis until week 7

My Wish List: Opening Day WR Depth Chart

1. Steve Smith

2. Louis Murphy

3. Brandon LaFell

4. David Gettis (Get healthy bro!)

5. Kealoha Pilares

6. Joe Adams

If Gettis gets healthy, I'd like to see him compete with Murphy at the #2. He showed a lot of flash in his rookie season in the worst of circumstances. At first glance, Louis Murphy is a great acquisition, making us less dependent upon Gettis being ready week 1.

I see Brandon as an ideal 3rd receiver; to come in and get us a first down in a pinch. I am yet to see him get open on a consistent basis; until I do, I don't like him as our #2 wideout.

If we didn't have Pilares, I would want to keep Armanti Edwards on the squad for his versatility. But I don't see Armanti giving us anything at WR or in the return game that Kealoha doesn't do a little bit better. And no, I don't think we need a third QB on the roster. If our first two QBs get injured (and I think #1 is the antithesis of being injury prone), give Tony Pike a call, lose some games, and move up in the draft order; the season is a wash at that point.

Speaking of Pilares, I would love for him to get alot more snaps this year. If LaFell disappoints, I would not be disappointed at all to see Smitty, Murphy, Gettis and Pilares be our 4 wideouts that get PT.

Tutu hasn't shown me much. Maybe the coaches see something in him I don't. While Legedu Naanee didn't turn out to be the worst WR ever, I'm not a big fan of loading the roster with ex-Charger rejects (minus Tolbert).

Practice Squad:

Hall of Famer Jared Green, if he flashes at all the next 3 weeks

Darvin Adams

That's my take Panther fans! How about you? How do you see the WRs shaking out for the 2012 Carolina Panthers? Let's hear it!
