#Panthers announced they signed RB Jonathan Stewart to a five-year extension.
I apologize, I'm not quite sure what's come over me.
In breaking news the Carolina Panthers have reached terms with RB Jonathan Stewart on a new 5-year deal that will keep Stewart with the organization through at earliest the 2017 season. Terms have yet to be announced, but it should be fascinating to see how the Panthers construct the deal in order to keep both Stewart and DeAngelo Williams on the payroll long term. It's important to remember that D-Will has no guaranteed money following 2012, so it's reasonable to think they'll ask him to restructure a year from now, or elect to part ways.
For now, however, there's no point in worrying about Carolina's cap situation long-term, because we've been guaranteed another five years of stiff arms, gifs and plays from a man who has been a class act since arriving in Carolina.
The timing of the deal is wholly reminiscent of Ryan Kalil, whose contract was reached late in training camp too. This will ensure the Panthers already potent offense remains so for a long time. Congratulations to Jonathan Stewart for his new deal, and a much deserved pay day!
UPDATE: Here are the contract numbers. Less overall than DeAngelo, but with the opportunity to make $500,000 more in incentives.
Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart signed a five-year extension worth $36.5 million and a max of $42.5, including $22.5 million guaranteed.
