There’s a quarterback controversy brewing in Spartanburg. As pre-season (PS) Cam Newton seems to struggle, he risks losing the starting job to Regular Season (RS) Cam Newton.
The same thing happened last year when PSPB Newton looked like a typical rookie during practice and the first three preseason games. So the coaching staff made change to RS Newton, who was impressive both passing and running the ball as he set several rookie and NFL records.
The comment section of the Charlotte Observer is on fire with debate over who should win the starting job. @Ih8Cam said, “See I told you all, Cam Sucks!” Meanwhile @IhartCam said, “No way, Cam is the best and can do no wrong, the receivers under ran the wrong routes and dropped the balls.”
More after the jump
However most of the posters at Cat Scratch Reader seem to agree, that they really don’t care how PSPB Newton plays in practice, making mistakes learning and improving, as long as RS Newton continues to show up for games that actually matter.
When asked about the controversy, Head Coach Ron “BAMF” Rivera, shook his head in disgust and said, “Anyone got a real question?”
Later, Rivera did confirm that there is competition at every position and even hinted that he may come out of retirement to become the fist player-coach in over 60 years when he said,
"I think the only one (position) that’s not competitive is our long snapper. I think J.J. (Jansen) is pretty solid in that position unless I come out of retirement."
