It's unlikely rumored illuminati member Cam Newton will be honored with a street right now. Wait... sarcasm font doesn't work here? Nuts. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)
NFL record? Check. Best rookie season in NFL history? Check. Statue at the Alma Mater? Check. Street named after him? Not so fast....
As much as I love Cam Newton as our QB I think it laughable that anyone would table to have a street named after a 23 year old QB, no matter what his history was. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, residents of Scarborough Rd in the South Fulton district of Atlanta are opposed to renaming their street 'Cam Newton Drive' in honor of the Panthers QB, an alum of nearby Westlake High School.
Cam still has family living on Scarborough Rd, but that hasn't stopped public opposition with the AJC referring to one resident who disagreed with the move to rename the street on the grounds of Newton's laptop theft issue, and rumored pay for play scandal (yawn). Honestly, it's probably a little crazy to name a street after a 23 year old QB, and spend the money to do it.
There will be a second hearing on the move where the final decision is put to a vote, and will likely be shot down. My suggestion to those living on Scarborough Rd who want their street to be named Cam Newton Drive? Go ahead and buy your Falcons season tickets. Over the next decade you'll have plenty of chances to see Cam Newton drives in the Georgia Dome.
Tip of the hat to 'Disciple of Carolina' for his fanshot
