I realise this is off topic, and would be best on the "CSR OT Open Thread", but I don't think you can post a poll on it. This is becoming a hot topic, and I think it would be interesting to see the people at CSR think, because we are all sports fans, not just the general public.
One rule though, I don't think we have any reason to discus the Sandusky case, this is only about whether you think the statue should be moved/removed. After the report on what happened at Penn St. came out yesterday, some have been calling for penalties as harsh as suspending football for a season, to even calling for the NCAA to hit the Penn St. football team with the so called "death penalty", but this is just about the statue.
Here's where I'm coming from. I hadn't even thought about the statue until the last couple of days, and didn't care, but it's now become a hot issue. I'll admit, at the time the story first broke, seeing Penn St. fans ralling around the statue in support of the football team, I thought it was an obsene and disgusting, because they ignored the victims. After that I thought it was all over and done with, but now (after the report came out) they are showing pictures of the statue with at countless flowers in front of it, but I'm OK with that, IF those flowers are given in symathy for Joe's now damaged reputation, and not in honor of him. However, what really offended me no end was that someone draped an American flag over the statue's extended arm. To me that's dishonoring the flag . It's like saying, we're the United States of child molesters, or their protectors. This act has totally changed my views on the subject.
After this act, I now believe that at the very least, the statue should be moved to an indoor location, I would suggest the Athletic Dept. or football offices, where it can be protected behing a protective glass wall, so this won't happen again. I belive the statue exhibit should also contain and additional or updated placard explaining what happened under his watch, with the Sandusky scandal.
