Shortly following the announcement Baylor WR Josh Gordon would be entering the supplemental draft the hype machine went into full effect as a decent prospect immeiately began getting insane comparisons to A.J. Green and even Calvin Johnson... sigh.
Touted as a 6'3"speed receiver with elite measurables and Stephen Hill-like speed it became the sexy thing to compare him to the league's elite, but I never really saw a player who was drastically better than our own David Gettis. At Gordon's workout today those purported eye-popping measurables were put to the test.
Early numbers for Gordon's workout: 4.52 (40), 6031/224, 36" vertical, 10'1" broad jump, 13 reps bench.— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) July 10, 2012
Those numbers are okay, but certainly not the insane measurables we were sold on when discussing Gordon. Slower than David Gettis and Alshon Jeffrey certainly doesn't belong in the same discussion with Stephen Hill, whose deficiencies as a receiver were easier to overlook given his numbers; especially when you couple Gordon's numbers with questionable route running, work ethic, and off-field issues.
It was always doubtful the Panthers would be interested, and this only further supports that.
Editor's Update: The teams that were officially in attendance has been tweeted around and it looks the Panthers were not one of the teams in attendance. [Josh Gordon fans sigh]
