Sorry, this post is a little longer than fanshots are supposed to be, but it's worth it. This is a fantastic interview with Steve Smith - I highly recommend that everyone listen to it. He comes on near the end of the show (around the 47-48 min. mark). A few highlights:
- On expectations and playoff talks: He says that the team both holds and withholds its own destiny, and that they have the ability to be a very good team or a bad team. He says that Rivera put up something during OTAs to remind the team that they only won four more games than they did the season before, and to never think that they've arrived.
- He speaks about how valuable Naanee was as an on-field resource because he knew the system inside-and-out, and even helped Smitty early on.
- Smitty raves about LaFell, his hard work, and his versatility. "He's not going to be a second option. He is #11, Brandon LaFell, starting wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, that will catch passes like he did against Tampa Bay. And it's going to require guys like me and other guys to do their jobs where a guy catches a ball and you go out there and get somebody. You're going to block. He doesn't show spurts of ability to play. I think he showed everybody that...he will be a phenomenal player."
