Labored Metaphors and the Culture of Denial

Stay connected for news and updates

When Jaxon wrote this morning about finally putting the bounty-gate scandal to bed I was thrilled. Honestly, what more can we learn through the 24hr news cycle than we already know? There's a bevy of evidence, numerous testimonies and even churlish computer wallpaper that implicates what happened. At this point it's probably time to put it to bed, accept what happened, and move on... right? I thought so too, then I saw this

I understand it's Brees' job to stand up for his team, and be the champion of all things New Orleans-- but Drew, it's time to get off that soapbox buddy. Furthermore, you're really not doing yourself any favors when you're bringing such labored, pointless metaphors into the discussion, and simultaneously insulting fans and media by equating them to sheep . The issue is pretty simple really, you guys screwed up. What I mean by this is that the time to fight Rodger Goodell's role as judge, jury and executioner of the NFL was thirteen months ago, when the CBA negotiations were taking place. Instead, the primary focus at that time was money, and now the big issue is sorted out it seems players are trying to fight against Goodell's role.

More after the jump

It seems there was enough backlash that Brees decided to attempt to clarify his statements an hour ago.

Always interesting to see how hypocrisy can sneak in when there's nothing left to gain. It wasn't so long ago that Brees was using the same media he's chiding now to push his agenda in CBA negotiations, but I'm sure that was 'the truth' and now this is all a spurious witch hunt.

Drew, please... from all football fans: Let this one go. I don't know if you think by being the organization's #1 cheerleader it will grease the wheels of a long term deal, but it's starting to look a little foolish and your mere analogies are jumping the shark.
