Despite an aggressive early pursuit free agent WR Jacoby Jones rebuffed the Carolina Panthers' ovetures, instead electing to sign with the Baltimore Ravens on a 2-year, $7 million deal. Things didn't look too promising for a deal when Jones left Charlotte without a contract late last week, and judging from the money he got from the Ravens it's likely much more than the Panthers would have offered. It has been Carolina's MO to move swiftly in these dealings, and if both sides were truly interested Jones would have signed before leaving the state.

Whether you think Brandon LaFell and David Gettis are enough to occupy the #2 and #3 spots, it's clear the organization don't have quite the same level of faith as they continue to look for more options to bolster competition in training camp. Jacoby Jones would have been a fantastic adittion to the Panthers, but c'est la vie.

Barring a surprising cut I believe the Panthers will now wait to see what receivers emerge on the open market following training camp cuts. I'm surprised they haven't reached out to FA Braylon Edwards, who remains unsigned and was a pivotal part of Rob Chudzinski's offense in Cleveland, but there could be other high-profile receivers let go in an organization's youth movement- Philadelphia's Jason Avant comes to mind.
