Daniel Jeremiah with NFL.com has ranked the NFL divisions by QB strength and he has the NFC South at #1:
Top QB division belongs to Drew Brees, not Aaron Rodgers - NFL.com
1) NFC South 1. Drew Brees, Saints 2. Matt Ryan, Falcons 3. Cam Newton, Panthers 4. Josh Freeman, BuccaneersI put this division on top because of the combination of depth, production and upside. Brees is a perennial MVP candidate. Ryan has been incredibly consistent in the first four years of his career. Newton's remarkable rookie season included a QB-record 14 rushing touchdowns. Freeman has lost weight and I expect him to have a bounceback season in 2012.
While I agree the NFC South does have the best collection of starting QBs in the NFL I of course have to disagree with the order in which he has listed them. Though I would still put Brees at the top for obvious reasons. But how can Cam Newton not be higher than Matt Ryan? What has Matt Ryan done? He finally cracked 4,000 yards passing in his 4th season. He has led the Falcons to the playoffs a couple times but has yet to do anything in the playoffs. Outside of a decent stat line Matt Ryan has essentially plateaued as a QB.
Newton on the other hand smashed several rookie records and still has tons of room for improvement. Plus the guy is a flat out winner even though you could argue he lost a couple games last season in the final minutes with some bad decisions. In spite of that who would you rather have behind center at the 20 yd line needing a score and one play to do it?
Ace Boogie that is who! In 2012 he will show why I am right.
