In close efforts monitoring the waver wire the Carolina Panthers today cut UDFA signing Tarren Lloyd to make room for J.J. Finley, who spent last season with the Detroit Lions.
The #Panthers have signed TE Joe Jon Finley and waived TE Tarren Lloyd: pnth.rs/JNR7kL

The 27 year old Finley was an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma in 2008, and spent 2008-2010 with the San Francisco 49ers before heading to Detroit for the last two years. He has no regular season experience, but totalled 10 receptions for 61 yards and a TD in preseason games.
We'll see numerous tweaks like this in the weeks leading up to training camp in order to get the right mix of rookie and veteran experience in training camp. It's likely this move was purely based on getting someone with four years NFL experience in the fold, rather than looking to mentor yet another young TE in Tarren Lloyd.
