Just when we thought this story was going to die its flared back up with this post by Mike Silver on a recorded speech by former Saints DC greg Williams prior to the Saints playoff game against the 49ers. It's pretty damning to say the least:
Said Pamphilon: "At one point Williams says, ‘We hit [expletive] Smith right there’ – then he points under his chin [and continues] – ‘remember me.’ Then he rubs his thumb against his index and middle fingers – the cash sign – and says, ‘I got the first one. I got the first one. Go get it. Go lay that [expletive] out.’
Pamphilon is a filmmaker and it sounds like this whole story will end up on TV. Maybe these types of speeches are routine int he NFL but I think the point is, and I stole this from a tweet I saw, that it shouldn't be routine.
Williams also referenced the prospect of his players inflicting a severe knee injury upon San Francisco wideout Michael Crabtree and exhorted them to "put a lick on" backup receiver Kyle Williams in an effort to "find out" if he was still suffering from the effects of a late-December concussion.
I have a hard time seeing Williams coaching in the NFL ever again. I've got more quotes after the jump.
From BW's fanshot:
We need to find out in the first two series of the game, the little wide receiver, No. 10, about his concussion," Williams said to the Saints’ defenders. "We need to [expletive] put a lick on him, move him to decide. He needs to decide."
"We need to decide whether Crabtree wants to be a fake-ass prima donna or he wants to be a tough guy. We need to find that out, and he becomes human when you [expletive] take out that outside ACL."
"We need to decide on how many times we can meet Frank Gore’s head. We need to decide how many times we can bull rush and we can [expletive] clip Vernon Davis’ ankles over the pile … respect comes from them fearing us."
If you have been a staunch Greg Williams supporter to this point I have to think this audio has to be giving you doubts.
