Darron Thomas as a backup option

I dont understand why Thomas gets no love. 6'3 220 pounds he has enough size, but he has an unorthodox throwning motion, and comes from a spread/option offens (not much unlike Newtons offense at Auburn), but he led the his team to victory more often than not. Some say his arm isnt strong enough, and I agree he doesnt have the rocket that Newton has, he has enough to be Newtons backup. He is pretty accurate throwing from the pocket, AND on the run, and his experience in the option offense would help him adjust to our current play book. With his skill set, the playbook wouldnt have to change as drastically as it would if Derek Anderson, or (gasp) Jimmy Clausen were forced into action. His tattoo's might cost him a shot here, but you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover

In his last 2 years at Oregon he completed 61.5% of his passes (not great, but not bad), threw for 5910 yards and 66 TD's and ran for 9 more, to only 17 int's. He also led his team to a 24-3 record, a BCS Championship (he lost to Superman), and a Rose Bowl victory where he threw for 268 yards and 3 TD's. I think thats a good enough resume to pick him up as an undrafted free agent, to see where he stacks up, and to see if he can help the team in the future as a backup to Superman. If he fails, then we arent out anything, just cut him loose. If he succeeds and make's the roster, then we have a backup with similar skills to Cam who can hold a clipboard just as good as Clausen. Here's a clip of Thomas doing his thing for the last couple years for those who are interested.
