OG Amini Silatolu At #40, This Pick Will Be 2nd Guessed A Lot

The Panthers have selected Division III Midwestern St. OG Amini Silatolu (6-3 5/8, 318, 33 1/2 inch arms, 10 1/8 inch hands) with the 40th pick. Silatolu is extreamly slow, running an "Official" Combine 5.43-40, "unofficially" a 5.33-40, a snail like 1.89-10, 7.95 3-cone, 4.87-20 yard shuttle, 28 bench reps, and a 31.5 inch vertical (a Pro Day 32 inch vertical). However, he was mocked as high as #30, to the 49ers.

Hurney does it again! How quick can we all shout BUST! The 2nd round jinx contunes?

This pick of Silatolu looks like a replay of the Jets 2nd round pick (#61) of U Mass (FCS)OT Vladmir Ducasse in 2010, only less talented. Ducasse has done nothing but ride the Jets bench for 2 years, and if Silatolu does better than that it's only because of need. Maybe all the great fans of SLOW will love this pick, but his strength (28 bench reps) is only average as well.

Just look at a few of the players the Panthers passed over for Silatolu.

WR Stephen Hill (6-4, 215, 33 3/8 inch arms, 9 3/8 inch hands)ran an "official" Combine 4.36-40, "unofficially" a 4.28-40, a maybe fastest ever 1.20-10, a 39.5 inch vertical, a Combine leading 11-1 broad jump, a 29.3 YPCatch in 2011, and a 25+ yard average for his career.

OT Jonathan Martin (6-5 3/8, 312, 34 inch arms, 9 7/8 inch hands) at one time was projected as a top 10 pick, and could have been a starting OT for the next 10 years for the Panthers.

WR Alshon Jeffery (6-2 7/8, 216, 33 inch arms, 10 1/4 inch hands) ran a Pro Day 4.47-40, a 6.71 3-cone, and a 4.17-20 yard shuttle, with a 36.5 inch vertical. In 2010 he had 88 catches, for 1,517 yards, a 17.2 yard average, and 12 TD's.

DT/DE Kendall Reyes (6-4 1/8, 299, 33 1/4 inch arms, 9 1/2 inch hands) is a Fletcher Cox clone, with even better Combine numbers, running a 4.79-40, 7.43 3-cone, and a 4.53-20 yard shuttle, with 36 bench reps, a 34.5 inch vertical, and a 9-5 broad jump. He had 4.5 sacks, 13.5 TFL's, and 46 tackles in 2011.

DE/OLB Vinny Curry (6-3 1/8, 266, 32 3/4 inch arms, 9 1/4 inch hands) is sort of a tail of 2 workouts story when it comes to running, an "official" Combine 4.85-40 with a 1.68-10, a 6.90 3-cone, and a 4.40-20 yard shuttle, but a Pro Day 4.64-40, with a 1.58-10, he also had 28 bench reps, a 35.5 inch vertical, and a 9-2 broad jump. He had 11 sacks, 22 TFL's, 77 tackles, and 7 forced fumbles in 2011.

So what do you think?
