The Carolina Panthers have taken steps to improve their offensive line by taking Midwestern State OG Amini Silatolu, a player who some thought would be swept up by a team picking in the latter part of the first round. At 6'5", 315 lbs., Silatolu brings a large frame and a nasty streak to an offensive line that has struggled with the necessary depth to provide quality run protection over the past few seasons.
While many fans will scream because the Panthers didn't make a "sexy pick", it should be noted that they got a great value in the second round at a position of need, and this is a pick that in a few years will be looked at as a complete steal. With this pick, the offensive line is one healthy Jeff Otah away from being one of the best units in the league, and no one could be happier with this pick than Cam Newton, DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, and Mike Tolbert.
Walter, from Walter Football grades this pick as an A, saying that Silatolu is a player who can be penciled in at both Guard and Tackle, but as it stands right now the most likely career path for him is a road-grading Right Guard (something the Panthers absolutely need going forward).
Join me after the jump to see a highlight video of Silatolu. I have a feeling that you'll warm up to the pick a little more after you see what he brings to the table.
Just watch Silatolu throw defensive linemen around like small children. I can't wait to see him do that in a Panthers uniform on Sundays!
