Second Round Board Shaping up Favorably for the Carolina Panthers

With Kuechly now set the Panthers will cast their eye to some players we expected to be taken tonight. (Photo courtesy of

The choice to select Luke Kuechly 9th overall is looking even better at the end of the first round as the night finished with a ludicrous amount of depth on the offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker. Thanks to several players projected to be second round picks getting taken early the board is now shaping up very favorably for the Panthers.

As it stands here are the top ten players available, per

  1. Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia
  2. Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
  3. Courtney Upshaw, DE, Alabama
  4. Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin
  5. Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford
  6. Kendall Reyes, DT, Connecticut
  7. Reuben Randle, WR, LSU
  8. Bobbie Massie, OT, Ole Miss
  9. Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson
  10. Amini Silatolu, OG, Midwestern State
I would add to this list Janoris Jenkins, Devon Still, Andre Branch and Jonathan Martin. The amount of talent still left of the board at 'need' positions is absolutely staggering. Honestly, in hindsight I would be upset if the Panthers look DeCastro or Cox if I could look into the crystal ball and see these guys still available. We can thank Tampa Bay, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and Minnesota for giving us this board.

After the jump I'll have a list of the players still available we've visited with, and a top-ten in the second mock draft.

Of the players still available (and slated to go in the 2nd) here are the players the Panthers have met, or had contact with:

- Stephen Hill

- Amini Silatolu

- Trumaine Johnson

- Reuben Randle

Out of these players I believe the two most likely picks in the second round are CB Trumaine Johnson our of Montana, and OG Amini Silatolu out of Midwestern State. That being said- you never know how a top ten can shake out, so here is my mock for the first part of the second round.

2.33 St. Louis Rams- Reuben Randle, WR, LSU

2.34 Indianapolis Colts- Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

2.35 Baltimore Ravens- Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

2.36 Denver Broncos- Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State

2.37 Cleveland Browns- Mohamad Sanu, WR, Rutgers

2.38 Jacksonville Jaguars- Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia

2.39 St. Louis Rams- Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska

2.40 Carolina Panthers- Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana

As much as I like Silatolu, or want to believe they'll take the upside of Hill or Jenkins, I really need to follow what the Panthers are looking for and that's impact and safety. Carolina have spent time with Trumaine Johnson out of Montana, and he fills a need.

The second round starts at 7PM Eastern, and we'll be back here on CSR all day and night for your draft needs!
