Luke Kuechly was the nation's top linebacker this year. (Photo courtesy of USA Today)
Judging by how quickly the Carolina Panthers made their selection it's now clear that Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly was far and away the BPA at the time of the pick. It was a selection that was made so quickly it looks like the Panthers didn't even entertain trading down.
Tonight is not a night to look at the ramifications of the pick, or what it means to Thomas Davis and Jon Beason, but to embrace Kuechly and welcome him to the Carolina Panthers.
Along with Fletcher Cox, Kuechly was far and away one of my 'man crushes' in this draft. An astoundingly instinctual linebacker who led the nation in tackles for each of the last two seasons. Detractors will make unfair comparisons to A.J. Hawk, but if you've really spent time on film you'll see a player reminiscent of Brian Urlacher. Marty Hurney said he wanted an impact player, and said he wanted a safe pick- to that end he got exactly what the Carolina Panthers wanted.
More after the jump
So, welcome Luke Kuechly to the Carolina Panthers! I can't wait to see what he does with the team!
Over 190 tackles last year, over 180 tackles in 2010... nobody can argue with that.
