Seventy two million have signed an online petition in less than 12 hours to force the NFL to remove the "Saints" name or else forfeit their franchise in New Orleans. Roger Goddell has announced, in an unprecedented event, that the nation's fans will vote on New Orleans new team name. The NFL will use the same balloting system used in the pro-bowl voting. IP tracking filters will cancel out any votes received from the state of Louisiana. Goddell states, "we are holding the team in New Orleans fully responsible for their appalling actions, and as such, their current name and logo is no longer appropriate. The name with the highest vote count shall become the team’s new name. More fines and suspensions will be announced in a timely manner."
There were riots in many streets across America after the last shocking revelation broke on national news. The Pope, a former Saints fan, on Sunday stated that the since the team was not formally canonized by the church, then it is a simple process to renounce the teams sainthood. The Pope went on to say that given the recent truths which have come to light, the Catholic church abhors violence, but forgives the rioters for their righteous and justified protests which have pressured the NFL into action. The Pope renounced his backing of the team formerly known as the "Saints" and stated that he hopes to back the City of Angel's new NFL team in the future.
The United States Congress has formed an investigative committee to study and recommend whether the NFL franchise in New Orleans should be revoked. Charges are sure to follow the investigations. Senator Carl Levins of Detroit vows to bring forth before the Senate potential punishments for the team formerly known as the "Saints" and fully backs the renaming of the team. Levins who defended the suspension of Lions player Ndamukong Suh earlier this year for stomping a New Orleans player, stated that Suh was provoked by pure evil and that New Orleans player "was no Saint".
