You would think that our targets for the #9 pick would be getting clearer from our 30 visits and free agent signings. For me, they are not.
Thirty days ago, we clearly needed significant upgrades to the competition for a starting position at multiple positions: Guard, Free Safety, and Under Tackle (the three technique). Also, we needed significant upgrades to the insurance for Beason (Mike), Davis (Will), Hogan (CB), Otah (OT), and Gettis (WR-Speed).
Does anyone know where I can get a list of the players we have had in for a visit? (The 30 allotted visits)
Are Bruce Cambell (OT) and Mike Pollack (OG) the insurance we need on the line? Are the signings of Jyles Tucker and Antwan Applewhite filling our needs at Defensive End? Are Phillips, Dillard, Onatolu, and Senn adequate additions to provide insurance for Beason and Davis? We have seen three top Wide Receivers that are clearly not expected to make it to pick #40.
While I hear debate about a need at Corner Back, Line Backer, and Defensive End. There is no debate that we need an upgrade to the Under Tackle. I think that the problem the panthers face is that none of the available Defensive Tackles are worth #9. We will be able to get a very good player for that position at #40.
Hurney and Rivera are talking about an impact player at #9. There is no hint that they are looking to trade back. That is why I am so confused. Who have we brought in? If we take Kuechly, are we going to a 3-4? Any Linebacker at #9 would have to start. Where would he start? Maybe after the first day of OTA's a position will open, but I think that the Panthers believe we will start Davis, Beason, and Anderson on opening day.
What position do you think the Panthers decision makers are targeting? I am not asking who you want them to target. I am asking what you see in their free agent signings and scheduled visits that leads you to believe that they are targeting a specific player or position.
