Just logged on to CSR and found out that Jordon Senn was just resigned so I pretty much just wasted 30 minutes researching 2 late RD LB that could have taken his place on special teams and spot starter. So even though he got resigned I'm still going to do my write up. Welcome back Sennsation!
While waiting for the wife to get out of classes today I decided to look at possible late Rd selections at LB. So I started with the Pac 12 conference and found 1 or 2 I was interested in when I came upon lowly Washington State. I almost decieded to skip them when I remembered that the had a Second Team All Pac 12 player there. So I dug a little deeper and found Alex Hoffman-Ellis. He stands a little taller then Senn at 6-0 and weighs in at 233lbs
In Hoffan-Ellis 2011 season he compiled 88 T, 0 TFL, 2 Sacks, 3 PD, 0 FF and 1 Int. As a Junior he had 81 T, 5 TFL, 2 Sacks, 4 PD, 2 FF, and 2 Int. As a Sophmore he had 84 T, 4.5 TFL, 1 Sack, 1 PD, 1 FF, and 1 Int. At his Pro-Day he ran a 4.54 40, did 36 reps at 225 on the bench, and has a vertical of 36.5.
Strenghs: Intense, Nose for the football and makes plays, Consistint preformer, Cover skills as well as play the run, Good special teamer and Versatile
Weakneses: Undersized, Lacks physical strength, Run around and look for the play's type, Body stiffness in pursuit, More competive then a gifted Athlete.
While not the most physically gifted Linebacker, he comes to play every week and has the ability to get to the footbal. Plays the run well but also has the knack for dropping into passing lanes as well as diagnosing and breaking up the underneath routes. The best thing that Hoffman-Ellis does is find the football and is not easy to fool o play action type fakes. A naturally instinctive playmaking linebacker in the Jordon Senn mold
My next prospect takes me to San Diego State. Miles Burres is a 6-2 and 232lb OLB that the Panthers recently visited at his Pro-Day.
During his Senior season he had 78 T, 19.5 TFL, 8 Sacks, 1 PD. As a Junior he had 80 T, 20 TFL, 9.5 Sacks and 4 FF. As a Sophmore he had 58 T, 6 TFL anfd 1.5 Sacks. As a Freshman he had 19.5 T and 1 TFL. At his Pro-Day he ran a 4.63 40, did 31 reps at 225lbs on the bench, 37.5 Vertical, 9-11 Broad and has 31 7/8 inch Arms.
Strengths: Self motivating linebacker who has the Size, Speed, and Strength to play all LB positions as well as the D-Line and S, Has football smarts, Non stop motor and is very coachable.
Weaknesses: Tightly wound and plays recklessly, Misses some tackles in open space marginal in coverage with no production, Short armed.
The way I see it this is a great develpmental Hybrid LB who in time if he learns coverage skills and has more ball production could become a starter in a few years but for now is only a rotational and special team player.
In closing while I'm glad Senn is back maybe its time to groom the Senn Master because the guy's agent is an ass and that wont sit well with management next year if he is resigned long term.
