For those that missed the pre draft presser from Ron Rivera, Don and Marty Hurney today, you actually missed quite a bit. Marty Hurney and Ron Rivera managed to say absolutely nothing while saying everything, (confusimg I know). So what was the takeaway from today's presser? Well for starters as I already stated in my other fanpost describing my draft model, we appear to not be intrested in a LB. When asked about it, Don (cant remeber his last name) said the talent at LB drops off a lot. Rivera then went on to praise our current linebackers simply stating how he was more than content with Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, Jordan Senn and James Anderson. So as ive already said, scratch Luke Kuechly off the list for number 9. Now to crush the dreams of fans of Michael Brockers and Dontari Poe, Ron Rivera pretty much dumped cold water on that idea right away. What did he say exactly? Well to paraphrase; "I will tell you this, we are looking for a guy that can have immediate impact, not a guy that we view as development prospect." Well Dontari Poe and Michael Brockers, thank you for playing, its been fun. In other words, Ron Rivera dashed the hopes of fans of Brockers and Poe. So in my opinion what does this all mean? Well scratch Kuechly, Brockers and Poe off your list. Who does that leave assuming Kalil, Claiborne and Blackmon dont fall(which I think he will, but different fanpost)? Well that leaves Fletcher Cox, Quinton Coples and Michael Floyd. If I had to place my bets, my money would be on those 3 guys being our final 3. Again, going back to my personal draft model, I see Fletcher Cox being the pick. Both Hurney and Rivera emphasized today they want a immediate impact player, Fletcher Cox fits the mold.
