I am so tired of everyone thinking Fletcher Cox is a lock.
Round 1, Pick 9- Michael Floyd (WR, Notre Dame) With cheaters in the division that target the offense; an extra WR isn't a bad thing. I know it's a risky pick considering the last time the Panthers used a high pick on a Notre Dame player but I think Floyd will be spectacular with Newton throwing to him.
Round 2, Pick 9- Kendall Reyes (DT, Connecticut) All I see on people's mocks are the Panthers drafting a defensive tackle in the first. I disagree; Reyes does not have a lot of sacks but provides a good interior rush. He is great on the run, he stops the inside and manages to get out on the outside sometimes.
Round 4, Pick 9- Dwight Bentley (CB, Louisiana Lafayette) I think the Panthers need one more corner because what if Hogan gets hurt again or is a bust then the Panthers are stuck with Munnerlyn. Even though Munnerlyn is developing I can't trust him on man to man. Bentley is an upgrade from Munnerlyn and maybe Hogan.
Round 5, Pick 9- Terrell Manning (OLB, NC State) Manning was a leader in NC States defense last year. The Panthers defense could always use more leadership. With Thomas Davis coming back form his third knee surgery; I think its safe to add another outside linebacker.
Round 6, Pick 9- Ryan Miller (OG, Colorado) All though guard is not a huge need for the Panthers; if Miller falls to the Panthers pick in the 6th you have to jump on the opportunity. Miller was a 2nd team Walter Camp All American. He's just a great all around player.
Round 6, Compensatory Pick- Kelcie McCray (S, Arizona State) If McCray had better cover skills he would be worth an early pick. Hopefully that will get better but McCray is 6-2 and weighs 195 pounds. His above average height could really be useful when he develops his ability to cover a receiver.
Round 7, Pick 9- Darren Thomas (QB, Oregon) This pick is risky but if anything ever happens to Newton there needs to be a QB that fits into the playbook. Darren Thomas is really athletic from running that fast paced Oregon offense and I just think he would fit into the playbook really well.
