Carolina Panthers 2012 Draft: Three Prospects From Texas

Today, we'll be taking a look at three prospects that I should probably be more familiar with because of their close proximity to me here in Texas. In fact, I live exactly in between two of the Universities and only two hours away from the other. Let's go ahead and jump right in, shall we?

Although I only live fifteen miles from the University of Texas campus, I actually didn't spend much time watching OLB Keenan Robinson perform during his career . I'm not quite sure Robinson reached the potential that the Longhorn coaching staff felt he had when they welcomed him into their fold four years ago, and I honestly was underwhelmed myself when I took a look at some of his game tape. Frankly, I think his teammate, OLB Emmanuel Acho, is a better prospect, even though Robinson is the better athlete. He does seem to play the pass fairly well, and I suppose this is why the Panthers valued Robinson enough to bring him in for one of their 30 allotted visits.

According to draftbible.com, the Panthers spent an extensive amount of time privately working with First Team All Big 12 Center Philip Blake at Baylor's pro day. Blake is projected to be a 4th round pick, but I can't imagine the Panthers would spend that high a pick on a center when they already have a pro bowler at that position on the roster. I imagine they believe he has the athleticism and versatility to play guard as well.

Offensive Guard DJ Hall earned 3rd team FCS All-American status as a junior and 2nd team FCS All-American honor for his accomplishments during his senior season. On a side note, this university of 30,000 plus is only a fifteen minute drive from my home and will join the big boys of the FBS when they become a member of the Western Athletic Conference this year. Keep in mind that the Panthers were one of only 10 NFL teams to show up to see Hall as the main attraction at Texas State's pro day. I'd take a shot on Hall in the 7th round.
