Yahoo's Jason Cole is reporting that free agent CB Cortland Finnegan is actively lobbying for WR Vincent Jackson to join him in Tampa Bay in what would amount to the biggest FA splash by the Bucs in years. Biggest isn't always best though, and personally I'm hoping the Bucs throw money at two solid players who aren't elite rather than, say, sign Mario Williams. The timing is extremely curious- after all, free agency doesn't start until the 13th. It seems stange Finnegan would have already chosen his location before any offers could be tendered.
If this deal did go through it could be a godsend to the Carolina Panthers. I've said for a while now that Tampa Bay is the stumbling block in the top ten that could prevent a slide of Morris Claiborne to the Panthers. If the Bucs sign Finnegan it's likely they would take Trent Richardson or an offensive lineman and from there we could see the dominoes fall favorably.
It's a double edged sword. Sure, out of the gate Finnegan makes the Bucs better (and gives them one of the most annoying players in football) but if they were to get Claiborne I think they'd be far better down the road. If you're a fan who hope every night that we'll be hearing Claiborne or Blackmon's name heading to Carolina on draft day then I'd be hoping this deal goes through.
