As I've said before, draft process is certainly a journey. Just a few weeks ago we were commonly mocked as picking either Dre Kirpatrick, Michael Brockers, or Devon Still. Now these names are rarely associated with the Panthers. For further proof, you could just ask Nick Fairley how much things can change in two months of the draft process.
Anyhow, I believe the Panther's organization is giving us a snapshot of what positions they are targeting in the draft. Our current facility visits have involved defensive ends, defensive tackles, and a linebacker. As of yet we have not brought in any cornerbacks or wide receivers. This leads me to believe the Panthers have a lot of confidence in Brandon Hogan and David Gettis as starters.
In free agency we made some significant cuts at the guard position. We also picked up players who could play special teams and provide depth and competition at the safety and back-up linebacker positions respectively. Additionally, if you were to examine the Panther's draft history, you will notice that offensive line, defensive end, and linebacker are focus positions in which the organization tends to invest early draft picks.
The above leads me to believe that we will use our early picks to target a defensive end, defensive tackle, linebacker, and/or offensive guard in the draft. The exact round in which we make those position picks in remains to be seen. Based off of this, I want to know which set of picks you prefer. I included two names for some positions because the talent levels are relatively similar, and I wanted you to focus on the individual position in that round more than the name. I only used our first three picks because lets face it, picks 5-7 are pretty much a crapshoot. You could anticipate a corner, safety, and or punter being picked up there.
Poll
If the Panther's draft based on the positions they seem to be targeting and do not get a trade back, which draft do you prefer?
