With the 9th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the Panthers select.....

After reading all of the FanPosts stating we should use are first pick on DTs and WRs, and this one really blows my mind....DE? I was forced to spread some knowledge threwout the Panther faithful. Now Im not saying we dont need to draft those poistions, just in later rounds. I'll start off by stating why we dont need to draft DT with the 9th pick.

We all know about Ron Edwards, he will be are starting Nose tackle, and is very good at keeping blockers off the Linebackers. But the main reason is Fua and McClain. They will be fighting for that 2nd starting DT job. With them competing for a spot, it will bring out the best in them. If you draft another DT in the first, you almost have to start him week 1. In doing that, how do you think that will contribute to Fua and Mclains development. I say draft a DT in the 2nd or 4th round.

Now WR to me, is hardly a need at all for the Panthers. But with Newton throwing the ball, the more playmakers the better. But remember Gettis is coming back, and I believe will be the breakout player of the year for the Panthers. Theres also the steadily improving Lafell, along with another breakout canidate in Kealoha Pilalares. But I agree we should draft a WR somewhere around the 5th.

Then comes the DE. I read where some people were begging the case for Coples of UNC. Maybe it was hometown bias coming out, but whatever the case, I dont believe we should even waste a pick on DE. No doubt getting to the quaterback wasnt are strenth last year, and something that needs to be improved. But there are far more pressing needs, like OL, and LB.

Now to my point. With the 9th Pick in the 2012 draft the Carolina Panthers select Dre Krikpatrick from Alabama. This ofcourse is assuming that Maurice claiborne is off the board. In are other areas of need we atleast have guys who are capable of starting and play well in spurts. With conerback, thats not the case. We do have Gamble, who impressed me alot last season, but other then him we have...The captain, who would be a nice nickle corner, but was constantly getting beat up and down the field last year, and a main reason why we lost games late with the other teams driving down the field and picking on Munnerlyn.

So add in a physical, athletic corner who has the build and tackling ablilty of a saftey. He has the height and strength to cover Marcus Colsten, and the athltic ablilty to cover Percy Harvin, why having the tackling ablilty to bring down Micheal Turner in the open field, this pick alone would improve are defense mightily. While using the 2nd round pick on Josh Chapman, NT from Alabama. Chapman was considered the best DT coming out a few months ago, but had surgery in Jan. That should bring his stock down to the early to mid 2nd round. If we got Kirkpatrick and Chapman, we could completely whiff are next 4 picks and still have the best draft of the leauge. .
