Remaining Free Agents and My Panthers Wish List

Stay connected for news and updates

Ryan Van Bibber put up a list of top level remaining free agents that I think is worth a look. You will quickly see that many of the players have now been signed this morning but there are still a few left. I would not have given this much pause if not for James most excellent article showing the Panthers do have some money to spend. So where might they spend it? We know they have a C/G in Jason Brown and FS Haruki Nakamura they are bringing in to evaluate. Here's a few more prospects we might target if the price is right:

Cornerbacks

Tracy Porter - Lead with any bounty program joke you want here. It could be a problem for him. With the top corners off the market, Porter should land a deal soon enough.

Ron Bartell - In spite of terrible hands, Bartell is a good cover corner. If teams feel good about his health after a neck injury last year, he could be a real bargain.

Aaron Ross - Adequate second-tier corners look good later in the free agency period.

I would hope Porter is not an option but the other two might be able to step in if needed. If healthy Bartell is a guy I would prefer of they pass on Nakamura. I've got more defenders ...after the jump...

An OLB option, when he is released as expected:

Kamerion Wimbley - A teaser here: Wimbley is still not a free agent. Oakland will have to pay him some $17 million if he is still on the roster by the weekend. Many think it's a matter of days until he hits the open market.

Wimbley would appear to be out of our price range but you never know...

Other safeties:

Mike Adams - Free agency and the 2012 NFL Draft are pretty thin on safeties, a win for Adams.

Reggie Nelson - Completely and totally meh, but will be in demand because of short supply.

I can't see either of these guys being upgrades but then again Sherrod Martin struggled in 2011.

So my Wish List based on those left would be:

- Wimbley

- Bartell

- Adams
