You can be sure that Central Michigan University isn't going to be at the top of the list of colleges with the most elite professional prospects, but some of their players have recently been translating extremely well to the NFL.
In fact, over the last handful of years, the Chippewas have produced the likes of LB Nick Bellore(Jets), LB Frank Zombo(Packers), WR Antonio Brown(Steelers), DT Cullen Jenkins(Eagles), and OT Joe Staley(49ers).
This must be part of the reason why the Panthers were one of eleven teams that were at Central Michigan's pro day this past Monday. Meet me after the jump to take a look at a few of the standouts.
Maybe Carolina was there to see late-blooming running back Paris Cotton, who ran a 4.3(unofficially) forty and benched 225 lbs 18 times, which is amazing for a man that stands only 5' 6 1/2" and weighs 190 lbs. I can't help but think of Darren Sproles win I consider his size and video highlights. He may get drafted around the 6th round, but he could turn out to be a steal.
Or were they there to see OG/OT Rocky Weaver, who carried his 6' 5" 300 lb frame with ease as he ran a 4.9 forty(unofficially). This prospect plays with a mean streak and has the versatility to get a look at Guard or Tackle at the next level. Weaver has a chance to be drafted in the 6th or 7th round.
Although it's unlikely the Panthers were there to scout cornerback John Carr, they had to be intrigued by his 4.3 forty(unofficially) at 6' 1" 196 lbs. This prospect looks to be a borderline 7th round/UDFA to me.
Let me know what you think in the poll and the comment section below.
RB Paris Cotton
OG/OT Rocky Weaver
Would you consider any of these prospects in the 6th round or later?
