We all thought that CB Captain Munnerlyn would be back with the Panthers in 2012, and then become a UFA in 2013, but now that may no longer be true. Munnerlyn was on the books for a 2012 salary of $565,000, rotoworld.com repored this evening that a playing time escalator in his contract has more than doubled the Captain's 2012 salary to $1.31 million. The $565,000 salary was reasonable, but is a $1.31 million salary for one of the NFL's lowest rated CB's something the Panthers can still afford. Cutting Munnerlyn might be the only way to avoid his high salary, as his poor play in 2011 might make him untradeable. However, as I posted a day or 2 ago, the Bills want to trade their former top 10 pick, CB Leodis McKelvin (who's lost his starting job), and will only make $1.5 million this season. Maybe the Panthers could trade Munnerlyn, along with a conditional draft pick in 2013 for McKelvin (both CB's will be free agents in 2013).
