Seahawks Fans Debating The Possibility of a Clausen Trade
So while looking for our salary commitment for Pickles next season I stumbled across this gem. It sounds like it's about 50/50 for and against but it would be awesome to get something for him.

We might have ourselves a trade....
Seattle needs QB competition and Dallas needs a back up… Is be more than happy with a 5th for Clausen 6th wouldn’t be bad either

Thanks For The Post Kris, Great News
Clausen’s 1st season was no worse than Blaine Gabbert’s last year, and lots of rookie QB’s struggle their 1st year, so I don’t feel a 5th or 6th round pick trade for Clausen is far fetched at all.
Yeah but Blaine Gabbert didnt have an off season
Of course looking at Cam Newton and Andy Dalton maybe that doesn’t matter.

To be fair........
Gabbert was being compared to Cam at one point, in terms of athleticism and his ability to extend and make plays with his feet. Clausen was never regarded as such. I was/am not very high on Gabbert (I dubbed him Blahblah Grabass) to begin with. I think he could become a good NFL QB, but he was not a guy I would have taken high in the draft. His field vision is poor, his accuracy is suspect, and he has never been able to push the ball down the field. In my opinion, Jacksonville got exactly the player that was advertised.

And he looks terrified in the pocket
If he can’t keep it together when he’s under pressure, it doesn’t matter how much talent he has.
This is true.
I think they were trying to get him to stay in the pocket and look for openings down field. That just isn’t Gabbert’s M.O. Granted it wasn’t Cam’s M.O. either but Cam is a much tougher and confident dude than Gabbert. Like I said before, I think Gabbert has the skills to become a good NFL QB. I just wouldn’t have taken him high in the draft. He always appeared to be more of a project than Newton to me.

Gabbert shot up the boards when Luck went back to school…before that you never heard of the kid. I would of took Locker, Ponder, Mallet over Gabbert but thats me.

I agree with you 100%.
I would have taken Locker or Mallet over Gabbert for sure. At draft time, I wasn’t completely sold on Ponder but in hindsight, he was probably a better choice too.

Although, Mallet was kind of acting like a dumbass leading up to the draft.
I guess I can see where some teams would have been scared off by that. He’s a more talented passer than Gabbert though, by far.

FWIW
I think Gabbert went to what was probably the 2nd or 3rd worst franchise he could have gone to at the time of the 2011 draft. I mean, the owner holds onto David Garrard long enough to sell some season tickets (and pimp him at the yearly fundraising luncheon), but not long enough to pay him an $8M salary due if he made the roster. In fact, I think he cut him hours after the luncheon. Talk about a world class P.O.S.
Then, after McCown fails miserably in two starts, you dump in a rookie QB with no offseason and virtually no time to prepare as the starter (he was inserted week 3, against us, IIRC). No, he did not play well, and that is the bottom line. I guess what I’m getting at is it may be a tad early to move on from him if you are the Jaguars.
They are under new ownership, so that’s a start. They’ll give him the offseason, but monitor him closely. They’ll see if he can beat out a veteran journeyman in camp. If he legitimately can (pomp and circumstance aside), then they’ll give him a few more games. He has a few physical attributes you can’t teach, unlike, say, Jimmy Clausen (they had eerily similar rookie seasons, IMO). So if someone has hope enough to give us a draft pick for Pickles, I think Jacksonville will try to surround him some better pieces/support staff and see how it goes.
And in case you are wondering, when the CSR blog war was raging between team Gabbert and team Newton, I was in the front shoveling coal into the Cam train. This is not a veiled attempt to make excuses for Gabbert—just my opinion on what has and what will transpire.
We need a nose tackle.
I disagree
Clausen’s season was far worse than Gabbert’s.

You forgot to adjust for the people who want Clausen but are too afraid to admit it.
I’d say it’s more towards 65/35 than 50/50.

As one of the founding members of the Clausen Haters Club..........
I feel a little funny saying this but, I don’t think we should get too excited about giving this guy away for nothing. While he is no where near the QB Cam is, he was making some very nice progress last training camp and pre-season. He definitely was moving the chains better. I’m a little intrigued by his potential with an offseason with Chud and Shula. I still hate the bastard, but I don’t want to let him go for nothing. I’d like to get, at least, a 4th round pick for him, if not a 5th and a player. He’s not really costing us that much to keep.

Suggested a Clausen and a pick (4-6) for a 2 because they do well in later rounds. This would make me wet myself.

Sorry dude. There is already much more damaging video of me floating around elsewhere. I used to get what they call “blacked out drunk”. Apparently I’m a really fun guy when I get that way and I tend to not like wearing pants anymore.

I think we take a 5th or keep him
I don’t think we should give him away though. He showed some improvement in the pre season and he could be worth something if he improves more. Kind of like Josh Johnson.
