Marijuana charges dismissed against Dre Kirkpatrick
ProFootballTalk.com is posting that the charges for marijuana possession against one of our potential draft picks Dre Kirkpatrick were dropped.
Based on this story, from the Tuscaloosa News, it sounds like Kirkpatrick’s friend, Chris Rogers, accepted blame for the presence of marijuana in a vehicle rented by Rogers. Rogers, a former teammate of Kirkpatrick’s at Alabama, was also arrested.
Per the incident report, Rogers admitted to police that he purchased the marijuana. Kirkpatrick admitted he was in the vehicle when the purchase was made, but claimed he did not specifically know of the purchase at that time.
If they were a concern to some before, they probably aren't now. I'm pretty sure we weren't going to look into it very much but I'm sure Dre can expect some questions about it during the combine interviews.

You can get criminal charges dropped
But you can’t fix stupid.
Run away. Run far, far away from this kid.
so you are going to exile a kid for being in the wrong place at the wrong time?
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was
wrong place at the wrong time?
“i was in the car when the purchase was made but i did not know of the purchase” stupid is as stupid does. some sites say he’s not even the 2nd or 3rd best CB, so why draft him anyway. i’m fine with avoiding him altogether.

yeah.
this is definitely a case where the denial is worse than the crime. can’t wait to hear his excuses for busted coverage, hopefully not as a panther.

If every NFL player that even had minor criminal charges like this run away from
There wouldn’t be much of an NFL.
"What do you want to say to those critics now?"
"Just sit back and watch the show." -Cam Newton
You don't drop kids off your board for one incident.
You drop them off your board for repeated instances of sheer stupidity. Like Janoris Jenkins.

Good news to hear. He'll still have to explain it to the Front Offices of the NFL, but his draft stock shouldn't be impacted very much, if at all.
Cam Newton, when a reporter asks him who will win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday: "I'll tell you Sunday."
Good to Hear
I figured he was caught in joint possession, and he got the charges dropped like I said he would.
Dre K will be a Panther ;)
Unless someone really wants to move up
crosses fingers come on Bengals!
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was
I think the Bengals or Jets could move up.
Bengals to get Richardson, Jets to get a pass-rusher. From the old draft value charts their first and second-round picks would be fair value for us to move from 8/9 to 16/17.

This relieves me
Apparently the weed was on the floor at his feet. So if all things being said are true, then I think we should feel safe with Kirkpatrick as our pick (at least in terms of off filed issues).
Actually, This Report Worries Me More Than Before
If the guy had it in his pocket when he got in the car, then he’s not responsible for not knowing it was in the car, he couldn’t have, unless the guy told him he had it.
However, Kirkpatrick’s being in the car with the guy when the purchase was made, and if what JDeLong42 just posted is true (“the weed was on the floor at his feet”), then Kirkpatrict hangs out with the kind of friends that will contuinue to get him in trouble, and he’s not smart enough to stay away from them.
fine. his buddy took the fall..
at least it’s not a ray lewis situation.
Charges dropped
From many of the comments here you might think that Kirkpatrick was a major drug dealer ..he isn’t. When I was in high school and in college from time to time I smoked weed as did a lot of others, it did not make us bad people or anything like that. I have not had or used any weed in 25 years plus but have friends and associates that do that does not make my friends to be bad people who I should shun but they do know not to have it with them in my car or home. Many Americans young and old smoke weed, that is a fact just as many drink. Many want to condem others for laps in judgements I guess they are perfect and never made mistakes in their lives or had poor judgements at one time or another. Many don’t remember( for some reason) all of the negatives things said about Cam annd his character and we see how that came out. Lets not be to quick to judge anyone and I an sure the Panthers organization will vet him and if the decide to draft him they would have taken everything in consideration.
