FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CAROLINA PANTHERS QB CAM NEWTON NAMED
2011 PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Newton Wins Fan Vote On NFL.com/rookies
Carolina Panthers QB CAM NEWTON is the 2011 PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, Pepsi and the National Football League announced today.
Newton set the record for most passing yards by a rookie in a season (4,051), surpassing PEYTON MANNING's previous record of 3,739 in 1998. He set the single-season quarterback rushing touchdown record with 14. He is the first rookie to throw and rush for 10 touchdowns in the same season, and only the second player to pass for more than 20 touchdowns and rush for more than 10 touchdowns in a season. He is the first player in NFL history with more than 4,000 passing yards, 500 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in the same year. Newton, who started all 16 games, finished his first season with a 60.0 completion percentage and 21 touchdowns. He amassed an additional 706 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. The Auburn product was the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and was nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week 11 times, winning three times.
Newton was one of five finalists for the honor. The other finalists were Cincinnati Bengals QB ANDY DALTON, Denver Broncos LB VON MILLER, Arizona Cardinals CB/PR PATRICK PETERSON and San Francisco 49ers LB ALDON SMITH.
The five finalists were selected for their outstanding performances throughout the 2011 NFL season. Each week, five nominees were chosen for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL fans voted for the winner on NFL.com. Those results were used to help determine the finalists.
This is Pepsi's tenth year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the tenth year that Pepsi presented the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.
Below are the winners of the 2011 PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK awards:

Now tthat we've got this out of the way...
How’s Super Bowl and League MVP sound?
I really think he’s got a shot at both.

Consistency
This shows me how consistent he is, and how much more control he has. He improved steadily throughout the season, and rarely made the same mistake twice. He was nominated 11 times. Other players were also multiple week winners, but being nominated 11 times out of 16 games shows consistency. And he’s only going to get better.
this is awesome.
Does any one know what the voting results for the Pepsi ROTY were? I know he won the AP. ROTY with 94%. (47/50)

"You ain't supposed to be smiling and giggling after we lose. I've never had the mentality of losing in my whole life and for a person to tell me you can't win them all, that's a loser's mentality." - Cam Newton, 2011 Pepsi ROTY and AP Offensive ROTY.

Cam’s been league mvp 5 years running on madden for me! Amazing talent :). Seriously though glad he’s got the individual recognition he deserves for revitalising our offence to a fantastic level. Long may it continue

ACC Championship Member Brandon Thompson is the new Jacoby Ford. You better pick him Panthers or you will be doomed to relive the 2010 season over and over again in the Twilight Zone.
Clemson 2011 ACC Champions! Look forward to doing it again next year! :D
Never a Dought
I’d like to know the three writers who voted against him. What the hell were they thinking.
So this is the official ROY award?
I thought this was just a Pepsi award and there was another 1? I was under the impression that the fans didn’t get to vote for ROY.
STICK THE KNIFE IN AND TURN IT!!!!!
from my understanding this Pepsi award is basically a fan voted award.
The Associated Press ROY award is considered the official award. That’s the one he won 47-3 over Dalton.

They're all accepted by the NFL as "official"
but most people tend to consider the AP ROY awards to be the more prevalent of them.
Little out of place......but, I figured this should be said..............Jaxon, And James Dator

As if there was any doubt....
It was his to lose, and I couldn’t see anyone arguing him off the throne.
