Dan Patrick Interviews Cam Newton
Cam Newton was interviewed on the Dan Patrick show today.
Some highlights for you:
Cam is in full pitchman mode - He showed off his Under Armor and Gatorade swag.
Playoffs!?!?!?!?!?!?!? - Cam says no playoffs next year will be a disappointment.
Tebow - Says he would be able to take Tebow in a Friendly Wrestling Match and that he is has respect for Tebow.
Cam always comes off as genuine in his interviews, sometimes to his own detriment. I am a fan of Dan Patrick and his laid back style that allows athletes to drop their guard. It unfortunately seemed to hurt Cam in this interview a little bit. Cam tripped up when he was asked to guarantee the playoffs next year. He tried to brush it off then took the bait and then back tracked a little in saying that any year without the playoffs is a disappointment.
Overall it was a interesting, if short interview. danpatrick.com usually posts interviews on their website within a couple of days so check it out.
My personal view is that Cam, as always, comes off as genuine and it appears that he has no interview coach. He continuously turned away from the mic while speaking, says what is on his mind, and even when he filters what he is saying he doesn't filter what he is saying. That is my favorite part of any interview that I see with him. Especially after all the pre-draft detractors saying that he was phoney and fake, it appears that the opposite is the case.
I hope that Gatorade doesn't get a hold of him now that he is one of the many faces of the product and turn him into a Payton Manning pitchman prototype that never says anything.

Cam was also on Colin Cowheard for ESPN. Said he Gained 10 pounds this season.
From twitter Jason McIntyre
Cam Newton said he currently weighs 263 pounds. That’s probably bigger than 75% of linebackers. Biggest freak in NFL history, right?

He was like 6"5 and 3/4 at the Combine.
But that just goes to show you that there are a lot of guys with inflated measurables, because you’re right…he is usually the tallest cat in the crowd.
We need a nose tackle.
colin interview starts about 15 minutes in

It does seem that many "Super Star Athlets"
tend to become robotic after they get a tast of the advertiseing money. However I feelt that Cam is more like the Big Arostole than Manning. Also once someone is brought up to speak their mind it is hard to put a lid on it so that is good news as well.

MAKE THE UNDERWEAR GUY GO AWAY
For all that is holy. I understand the need for ads, but this is terrible.
I could take one, but there's like 6 of 'em on my screen at any given time.
Don’t think anyone who posts here has any control over it though.
We need a nose tackle.
As far as I know: we don't have control over it.

Also on Cam:
I think he definitely comes off as genuine in his interviews, but I know he is holding back. Sometimes you can see the entire depth of his confidence (that sometimes borderlines on arrogance) and I don’t fault him at all for it. It’s one thing for someone like Mark Sanchez or Matt Ryan to be cocky when they’ve reached their ceiling. But Cam has a reason for his confidence…he is a freak of nature and his potential is so great that I don’t think anyone really knows what he can accomplish.

There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance

This is a nothing story.
Which QB, especially a previous number 1 draft pick coming off a stupidly good rookie season, wouldn’t be disappointed not to make the playoffs.
The media is constantly trying to trip Newton up with his perceived cockiness and arrogance. Does it matter that he’s the way it is? If it leads him to a Superbowl or two and a HOF career, who in the Carolinas (or here in England) will give a damn?
Aren’t sports journalists just failed athletes anyway?
I'd compare Cam to Kevin Durant
Both love to play the game more than anything and show it. Both guys sorta broke the mold about body type and possibility/upside. Both are ultra competitive.
I think Durant is overrated.
But I agree with your point.

That’s kind of my point…all he does is score.
He’s 6 foot 9 and he can’t get a rebound. Averages 4 assists despite having the offense flow through him every possession he’s in the game.
Just not my kind of basketball, I guess.
We need a nose tackle.

Disagree completely
Kd never gets in the spotlight, and Cam would compare freakwise to lbj ugh
