Even More Carolina Swag

This is something I have been meaning to post on here for a bit now, but I have been very busy with work. We all know the Carolina Panthers are a classy organization. I didn't realize just HOW classy they actually are until something horrible happened to me. More about this, after the jump.

Star-divide

I am originally from Clayton, NC but when I got a job at Holly Springs Wal Mart last year, it became obvious a move was necessary. It is still a 30 minute drive from my apartment my wife and I live at in Angier to my job, so to alleviate the cost of gas, I bought a moped and drove it to work and back every day. Here are a few shots taken the first time I rode her. I named her "Carolina."

I loved riding her. Sadly, in January I was riding with her to work and the battery died on me. I had some friends pick her up for me and drop her off back at my place. That night when I got off work, I put her back outside and locked her up for the night preparing to get a mechanic to fix her. I never got the chance. The next morning I was off work and I took a look outside. My Carolina was gone. Someone had taken her in the dead of night. I called the cops out there immediately, but nothing has been done. Sadly, she's probably been taken apart and sold off bit by bit or used for parts. My bike, the decals, the flag...all gone. That was January 25.

Fast forward to February 10. I was preparing for work, when I heard a knock on my door. I opened up the door and imagine my surprise when I saw a package from the Carolina Panthers. I figured my wife had decided to make something for me, since she sews, and I called and told her something came for her from the Panthers. She told me over the phone that it was actually something for me and she'd tell me more when I got off work. All day I wondered what it could be, and finally the day ended. We got home and I opened the package.

Inside was a team photo of every single player and staff member of the Cardiac Cats from 2011, an autographed photo of all the Topcats, a helmet logo made EXCLUSIVELY for the Carolina Panthers players' helmets. a Carolina Panthers lanyard, a few magnets and a Carolina Panthers picture frame.... this....

A Carolina Panthers polo that all the coaches and staff wore on the sidelines during the games, and a letter meant personally for me.

My wife had sent the Carolina Panthers organization a letter and told them about Carolina and what had happened and that she wanted to know if they could possibly send me something to cheer me up as a Valentines Day gift. They sent her a reply asking for my size and that there will be something coming soon, although it would be addressed to her so it would be a surprise for me and she could be there when it was opened.

I was a huge Carolina Panthers fan already. My wife says I'm obsessed and she's probably right as I do live and breathe for the Panthers. I wanted my wedding ring to be a replica of the Carolina Panthers Superbowl ring. She says one day we will replace the ring we used for the wedding with that replica. I didn't think it was possible for me to be a bigger fan than I was already, but like the kids who got footballs from the Panthers when they scored this past season, I am undoubtedly a fan for life and will raise my kids when I have them to be as well. We truly do have a classy team, with management that is full of heart. Here's to the playoffs and a Lombardi in the very near future!!!

I plan on getting a new bike soon using some of my tax return. It will be blue and black, Panther colors....but I want a few ideas. Please send me some ideas for decals or decorations I can add to it, and possibly even a name. When I get a new one and have her custom-decal-ed, I'll be posting pictures. I know already I will be ordering decals of the new logo.

One last thing. It's frustrating, but for some reason you can't really find Cam Newton Pro Bowl jerseys any where!! They have Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Gronkowski.....but no Cam Newton. After an exhaustive search, I found someone who decided to have them made and they are selling them now. These are authentic ( everything sewn on, not screen-printed) replicas and they're going fast, I bought one with my tax return just now..... here's your chance.

I will be making a new Player Review within the next few days, one on Defensive End Thomas Keiser.

Classy

I remember this past season when Jerry went to the funeral of a long time ticket holder who had a heart attack in the parking lot after a game. I am proud to be a Panthers fan.

That's a sweet story man.

The Panthers are truly one of the classiest organizations in the sporting world.

I don't want to draft Michael Brockers or Devon Still. Chris Kreider is the future.

I'm as proud to be a Panthers fan as I am a Braves fan.

You’re not going to find two classier organizations in all of sports.

If only the Braves weren't so dead set on trading all the players that got them where they are...

Part of the reason I no longer watch MLB, sadly. I’m still stewing over the Dave Justice trade in the offseason after he won the World Series for Atlanta in ’96.

Same here with the NBA Bobcats.

I wanted so badly to watch the Bobcats and become a good fan of this local team and buy their cheap tickets to go see a game. I had begun cheering for them before their big playoff year and I was ecstatic when they both did that and Wallace made the All-Star team. I was well on my way to being a fan. But then they traded him and Stephen Jackson away, I couldn’t help but shake my head because I knew what was coming.

So instead of being a true fan like I am with the Panthers, I’m one of those cynical guys that like to poke fun at an organization making bad decisions. Everything the Bobcats have shown me so far tells me that they will never be a good team. They want to both have a good team and be cheap about it, which are terms that are mutually exclusive to each other.

ACC Championship Member Brandon Thompson is the new Jacoby Ford. You better pick him Panthers or you will be doomed to relive the 2010 season over and over again in the Twilight Zone.

I didn't mind trading Jackson so much, but trading Crash was too much for me to handle..

it was at that point that I remembered this is a Jordan run team, and if there’s anyone who can challenge Matt Millen for management ineptitude it’s MJ unfortunately :(

I'll admit I didn't like trading Wallace FAR more than I didn't like trading Jackson.

But he was an intricate part of our playoff team as well. He could hit all the tough shots while Wallace was more of an inside guy that could ‘crash’ his way up the middle and do damage in the paint.

The trade was made for all the wrong reasons.

We want to make a run for a championship. ((While in the process throw away the talent we have.))

Our players are too old and we need to go younger. ((Because the younger talent that come in as draft picks are supposedly going to be automatically going to be better, though we don’t know that for sure.))

We can’t afford them. ((We’re too cheap to put a decent team on the court despite being under salary cap. But we’ll somehow find 10 million dollars a year to pay Corey Maggette despite him only averaging 13 PPG, playing the wrong position in the positions we need, and being as old as the players we traded away, thus blowing the reasoning for those trades right out of the water anyway.))

It’s just silly management all over.

So true.

I’m still holding out hope that Davis/Barnes/Drummond will turn around the franchise, and at least make the team tolerable to watch next season.

I don't want to draft Michael Brockers or Devon Still. Chris Kreider is the future.

The problem the Bobcats had

They were capped out. They had no money to improve the team. So it was either do nothing and wallow around in mediocrity, making the playoffs here and there only to get bounced out like we did against the Magic; or completely blow it up and start from scratch. Jackson and Wallace were are only big contracts that anyone would willingly take on, so they had to go. No one is going to trade for Diop’s, Carroll’s, Najera’s grotesque contracts, so they’re stuck waiting for them to expire.

And I’d hardly call Jordan cheap seeing as the team was over the cap last year, and it wasn’t even a playoff team.

That's awesome!

Good to have a team that’s respectable on and off the field.

Awesome story man.

It’s great to have a team that keeps an eye out for it’s fans. I have a feeling though that I’ll be keeping an eye out for Carolina mopeds from here on out though.

How did you do that?

I’ve been a Carolina fan ever since I can remember. I’ve never heard a story quite like this one involving the Panthers. I am co-creating a comic book and my love for the Panther’s has spilled over into it. I had an artist draw up my main character Aceblade ripping his costume Clark Kent/Superman style revealing a Panther’s logo on his chest and he #1 a la Cam Newton. I wanted to send it to Cam but I couldn’t find a proper “Fanmail” address for the team. does anybody here know the address that I can send it to?

I lived in Lillington for about 4 years. Angier is a rough place in my opinion ……. sort of like some sort of town full of bandits and bad bad dudes from a western. Sucks your scooter got stolen.

Great story to share with us. It again points out the class of the Panthers.

(Do you know my friends, Michael and Angie Collins, who live in Angier?)

Thank You

I got about half way through the article and started to think to myself “why I am I still reading this?” I am happier that I did than a pig in sh!t. Once I got to the end, you had listed a link to purchase the Pro Bowl Cam Newton jersey I had been looking for online since he was selected to play in Hawaii. I was luckily able to purchase the last one available in my size. I have been a long time reader and this is my first reply. I’ve been a Panthers fan since 95. I comment vehemently on most of the other blogs (BR, C. Observer, Cat Crave, etc.) and this is my first time commenting on here, but sometime this past weekend, you made my month! thanks!
