Alshon Jeffery Now 249 Pounds & Runs In The High 4.8's

Rotoworld.com just reported a shocking rumor about WR Alshon Jeffery that came out today. The rumor is that Jeffery has eaten himself up to 249 pounds (TE weight), and in his pre-draft workouts is running in the high 4.8's in his 40 times (slow for a TE, career killing for a WR). Sporting News' Russ Lande was quoted as saying that Jeffery "Lacks explosivness and top end speed".
I hope this rumor isn't true, for his sake, and the sake of his NFL career, but we will have to see what happens at the Combine. However, if Jeffery should decide not to run, or even workout at the Combine, that might be conformation. If the rumor is true, then it's probably too late for him to get in shape for the Combine, so lets hope he can get himself together by his Pro Day. Of course we all hope this rumor will be proved untrue.

If its true it will lower his draft status greatly
Lets draft him in the 4th and if he doesnt work out at WR make him a TE.
If it's true, wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole...

Gives me the impression that all your Jeffery hype is blind homerism. That may not be true. But it kinda looks that way.

i don’t know about this. if proven true, i would definitely have to amend my mock draft strategy. he’s got tight end size anyway, but i can’t touch with the speed of a guard.

it would be different if he was a bonafide pick like Julio Jones or AJ Green. I don’t think Blackmon is in their league, but some guys have Jeffrey as the 4th best receiver. They might be wrong, but right now I don’t see how jeffrey is better than LaFell or Gettis.

I agree. We don't need anymore depth players at the WR position.
We need someone who can come in and become the future #1 WR, ease the pressure on Smitty, and create matchup problems. Alshon fits all of those categories, and for that reason, I wouldn’t mind picking him up in the first.

3 of the top 5 receivers this past season were drafted after the 2nd round or undrafted
5 of the top 10 were drafted after the 2nd round or undrafted.
Out of the 19 receivers who had 1,000 or more yards in 2011,
Steve Smith, Wes Welker, Steve Johnson, Antonio Brown, Victor Cruz, Brandon Marshall, Jimmy Graham(TE), Mike Wallace, Marques Colston, and Nate Washington were all drafted 3rd or lower.
10 of the 19 players with over 1,000 yards receiving this past season were not drafted in the first 2 rounds.
I don’t think anyone can make a legit argument that only WRs in the top 2 rounds have #1 receiver potential.
Jeffery reminds me of Colston (that's a good thing). If he runs in the low 4.5s, I'd be good to go in the 2nd round.

Here's a fun way of looking at it!
Robert DeNiro gained 60 pounds to play Jake LaMotta in ‘Ragin Bull’. In order to do this DeNiro went on a 5 MONTH binge eating trip around the North of Italy where he boosted carbs and ate 5-6 meals a day.
This means DeNiro averaged a weight gain of 12lbs per month without exercising at all and intentionally gaining weight.
Yet Jeffrey happed to gain 20 lbs in a month?
