I would give him a shot

He is still an athletic freak who could provide a deep threat opposite of Smitty. Even if Moss has lost a step he would still command attention and other teams couldnt double Steve. We also get a big WR who has a knack for finding the endzone. I gotta say. Steve Smith, Randy Moss, David Gettis, and Brandon LaFell make a pretty nice WR core.
I doubt he is going to demand much money and he seems like he is going to try to avoid the drama.

Ever so often someone has a good post.

I concur… If there is a QB with a strong enough arm to make this happen it would be Cam. After hitting Randy, Randy, Randy down field a few times his swagg will return and this team is off and running better than it was this past season. Everyone benefits as mentioned by pcroadrage.

Place you personal feeling aside about this one… it’s a steal, and I would take him over any wideout in the draft.

Nope.

Of course every team should do their due diligence though. As far as I’m concerned, Moss is done. I think he’d be more of a pain in the ass than anything. Not because he’d do anything wrong, just because everyone would be waiting for him to. At the end of the day, him not being a distraction would end up being a distraction.

I'd give him a shot before Ward

He’s a great deep threat.. and should be somewhat cheap. The only thing I would worry about is his attitude

He's

Done! He was terrible in Min and Tenn. He’s a 1 trick pony that cant even do that like he used to. He is certainly a HOFer and was awesome to watch, but he’s not the same player he was. His production is no longer worth the problem.

i disagree

he got stuck in 2 places that he didnt want to be in and was expected to produce right off the bat, with no knowledge of the play book or chemistry with the QB. This year he seems much more determined, he took care of his personal issues, and he will have time to mesh with the offense

You dont

Need much knowledge of the offense if you only run one route

I say bring him in for a workout. If he has any speed left, and is in solid shape, I might give him a flier for TC.

No

I really think he still has the talent, but there’s just something about him that’s locker room cancer, and I don’t want the panthers to have to deal with it

by LlamaKid on Feb 13, 2012 6:16 PM EST reply actions

Shockey wasnt really ever a cancer

he’s just a very passionate and outspoken individual, kinda like Smitty

Thanks

Just had to clear that up…

Not a cancer acutally

Everyone that played with him says he’s a great teammate. He just lost his head the last season he played.
That said his tendancy to quit on things would be a concern.
IF he’s motivated, in shape, and the rest of the team is in agreement, I would give him a shot.

I would only be worried about him teaching Cam its ok not to care

Which he clearly did in Minnesota and Tennessee. But I would take him over Ward and I think he would be a great upgrade to help our already great offense

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 13, 2012 9:04 PM EST reply actions

If Randy's head is on straight then I would say yes

Even if he can only run the 9 route…no one can run it better than him. That could really open up things for Smitty since it would be harder to bracket him with the safeties having to respect Randy. Plus Newton has the arm to throw it 60 to 70 yards down the field to Randy. With that said, I don’t think that it will happen….

by mlrupert on Feb 13, 2012 9:54 PM EST reply actions

...didn't see this coming.

Lets not forget that he managed to be useless on 3 different teams 2 seasons ago. How would a year out of football make him better?

by SFImam on Feb 13, 2012 10:08 PM EST reply actions

How shocking. I thought for sure he was done for good when he announced his

retirement.

And I would not sign him. Too old and too much of a problem.

Here's Cris Carter's ringing endorsement...
Cris Carter on #RandyMoss: He has more quit in him than any other superstar I’ve ever met…he has a quit mechanism in him that’s huge.

What does Cris Carter know about being a good WR in the NFL?

According to the NFL HOF Committee, nothing.
