CB Tackle Ratings, Can't Any Panthers DB's Tackle?
ProFootballFocus.com has just posted their top and botom 20 tackling CB's, and surprise 2 of the bottom 20 CB's are Panthers. Here are how those to players ranked out of a total of 101 CB's ranked:
99. Chris Gamble - 869 snaps - 59 tackles attempted - 13 tackles missed - 4.5% tackle efficiency
87. Darius Butler - 387 snaps - 41 tackles attempted - 7 tackles missed - 5.9% tackle efficiency - However, Butler didn't miss any tackles in run support.

As I posted a while back, their ratings for the Panthers S's weren't any better, also ranking both starting S's in the bottom 20, out of the 88 S's ranked.
82. Sherrod Martin - 938 snaps - 68 tackles attempted - 15 tackles missed - 4.5% tackle efficiency
77. Charles Godfrey - 821 snaps - 88 tackle attempts - 18 tackles missed - 4.9% tackle efficiency

these numbers are very subjective and can be twisted and misleading
Martin is the only DB of ours that has issues with tackling

Ummm, you ever watched Godfrey?
He’s not exactly what someone would call a “sure tackler”.

no, but he isnt as bad as everyone here makes him out to be
CSR seems to have a hatred for Godfry for some reason. He misses some tackles but that is almost always from not wrapping up and going for the hard hit instead. He hits hard and is good in pursuit. Overall he is an above average safety. Most people outside of here dont see him as a weak spot on our team or heavily criticize him for tackling.

Godfrey is pretty good.
But he’s playing out of position and isn’t a sound tackler. Those are his knocks and they are justified. I’d trade the hard hits if he’d just learn to wrap up a ball carrier’s legs.

Godfry isnt perfect
but i still like him overall as a player. Wouldnt mind finding another safety to replace Martin though. whether that be a FS to take his spot or a SS that moves Godfry over to FS

Agreed
We could do much worse than Godfrey at either spot. I’d at least like some competition for Martin, and I think with some improved play from all CBs not named Gamble the Safety play will improve as well.

I agree that competition could be the issue
Neither Martin nor Godfry have really been challenged for the starting job since they came here and Martin has clearly been disappointing. They could benefit from someone to compete with

Don't worry...
BAMF definitely has that covered.

I Didn't Want To Post My Thoughs Early, In Order Not To Push The Comments In Any One Direction
I’m shocked that no one has posted anything about Chris Gamble’s very poor tackle rate yet (the same 4.5% as Sherrod Martin). Gamble’s ranking 99th out of 101 CB’s is actually even worse than Sherrod Martin’s ranking 82nd out of 88 S’s ranked.
Is it that Gamble is so good in coverage that everyone is just giving him a pass on his poor tackling?
Is it that everyone already knew that Gamble was a very poor tackler?
Why has no one posted anything about Gamble?
I was wondering the same thing. This stat is a little disconcerting.

Gamble is among the best at QB rating against, which equates to "elite."
Still, he could make a tackle to help out now and then.

Many of the better cover corners have been poor tacklers.
Deion Sanders tackling (or lack of same) was a running joke in the NFL for years.
He tackled people?
