I hate to say this but...

If Blackmon is there….. I wouldn’t be mad of we drafted him. We would just have to pick up some defensive FA

I’d prefer a defensive rookie but having Blackmon line up beside Smitty would be great….

You don't have to hate to say it...

If Blackmon falls to us we take him, run, then celebrate the steal we got that could have a WR slot set for years with Cam!

there's a gwlaring absence on this list.

think dator’s combine story… where’s our wide receiver?

Honestly, I can't help but feel like this must be a mistake

I could see someone projecting him in the 15-20 range, but out of the first round seems absolutely insane to me.

Unless you think he’s the next Dwayne Jarrett (which he’s not for a variety of reasons) then I don’t see how he gets undervalued that badly.

I'll be upset if we draft a WR in the first, even if it is Blackmon...

We can accomplish a lot more taking a stud prospect at another position (LB, DT, CB…you name it) than taking a WR; unless they are physical freaks like Megatron or Fitz, there is always WR talent to be found in the draft (and much like RB’s, WR are generally heavily dependent on the pieces around them for success; I think Cam will be able to work wonders with non-hyped WRs as long as they have some physical tools lol)!

Yea but you have to be careful of what the Eagles did the McNabb

They didn’t give him any weapons and over his career that hurt. He played his best with Owens.

I firmly believe that the Panthers could regress in the NFC if Cam regresses. And that is one Steve Smith Ankle injury away from 11-29 passing days for Newton.

I really believe the best thing the Panthers could do is ensure Newton has the tools to prevent regression. Newton having a sophmore slump would be a really historcally damaging step back..not just for him but for the entire organization.

Yes i understand the defense was bad. But too me selecting a corner like Dre Kilpatrick at 9 solves what? Bress will just pass to someone else EVEN if Dre shuts his man out of the game completely and the Saints will still score 40 plus. It is my opinion you improve the run defense and make them one dimesional and score more points offensively and they you have a chance.. with improving Newtons weapons and his confidence you greatly take a step forward in that regard….Newton having a step back is a major concern that needs to be seriously prevented and that should be a MAJOR priority….

I can dig getting him offensive help, and I definitely don't think drafting a CB is going to solve much...

however, we have to fix the problem that basically lost 3-4 games this year alone, which is the defense (and more specifically, the line needs interior help). We can get offensive help from many other avenues, particularly given a lot of the young talent on our team (we are in a much better position with young talent than the Iggles were), but our defense has some major holes that need an infusion of young, stud talent before anything else.

Please consider that the return of the Beast in the middle, along with better Safety play, will significantly help the run D.

I'd like to assume we'll have better safety play

But I don’t think we can assure that.

if we're at 9 and it shakes out like this...

first off, get back up in front of st. louis in second and get jeffrey (hey, i’m trying to start a bandwagon, haha) we’d be looking at:
9. Riley Reiff* – OT – Iowa – 95

10. Michael Brockers* – DT – LSU – 95

11. Luke Kuechly* – ILB – Boston Coll. – 95

12. Justin Blackmon* – WR – Okla. State – 94

13. Mark Barron – S – Alabama – 94

14. David DeCastro* – G – Stanford – 94

15. Janoris Jenkins – CB – N. Alabama – 93.

if it’s me, i throw out blackmon, decastro and brockers (do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law) and i prob land on jenkins. does kuechly project to weak side? i’m down on o-tackle this week, but check back with me, haha

by bylinebrown on Feb 10, 2012 5:06 PM EST reply actions

I just dont get how a de that had 7.5 sacks in a season

is the 3rd best player in the draft. Coples has the potential to be the 3rd best player in the draft….but he has yet to show it.

by mlrupert on Feb 11, 2012 5:52 PM EST reply actions

He *did* rotate on the line quite a bit, so labeling him a pure DE is a bit misleading...

however, there’s no denying he didn’t perform anywhere near expectations this year lol his ranking is all about upside though (the same applies to Brockers, although Brockers has had a lot less playing time than Coples). It is hard to argue with Coples physical tools though, guys with that kind of build don’t come around often :p

Team interviews will be critical for Coples.

Is he the first in, last out of the weight room? Same for the film room? … attitude, work ethic, team over self; all these things and others will be explored in the interviews.

So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.

He was also Double Teamed consistently unlike other prospects, i.e. Brockers, Mercilus, and Upshaw.

And, he played at a semi-new position.
