So I just read the Post Game Open Thread and I got the feeling many of you out there were not in favor of benching Norman for Dockery. I get it, Norman's a 5th round pick and Dockery was aquired off the Browns scrap pile but don't let that sour you to the type of player he is.
Dockery played in 38 games for the OSU Beavers from 2007 to 2010. He totaled 106 tackles, 3 TFL, 19 PD, 6 Int and 1 BlkP. While not being invited to the Combine at his Pro-Day ran a a 4.46 40, a 38 vertical and 9'6" broad jump.
Pros:
Excellent feel for the Game Comes up with big plays in key moments, 2 Int to clinch games at USC and Arizona Very solid tackler Capable of self improvement Size and Ability to be a solid No. 2 or 3 CB. Also played some FS Played in a pass happy Pac 10 and showed he can compete with most receivers Contributed on special teams
Cons:
Footwork and Hip Rotation need work Durability a concern, Missed all of 2008 season with Knee Injury. Played on a team that had little help on the Offensive side of the ball his Senior season to help a skilled Defense win games Gets lazy and takes some plays off.
Now I mean no knock on Norman but he was a big fish in a small pond playing in the FCS and his inflated numbers show it. So while not great James Dockery at least deserves to try and prove himself to the Panthers and I'm glad Rivera is giving him a shot.
Who knows maybe we have the makings of a good CBing duo in Norman and Dockery. This is only my opinion so take this information and decide for yourself.
