John Fox is returning to Carolina, the weather has taken a decidedly cold turn, and we're hitting that dark beer time of year.
Green Man Porter
This relaxing porter is one to soothe nerves, and will take you through the entire game.
The Brewery
Green Man Brewing was originally foundered in 1997 as a Brew Pub in Asheville, NC. Since those humble beginnings they have branched out, pushing for widespread distribution in 2010. From there Green Man won awards, but out excellent ales, and can now be found across the Carolina's in specialty beer stores.
The Brew
I adore stouts and porters, but they have a tendency to be a 'one-and-done' type style to me. They tend to be so heavy, and so rich, that I am normally done drinking after a couple. Unlike most porters, Green Man's offering skews more towards being a session ale, something you can drink all afternoon long.
This English Style brown porter gives the malt-forward profile you expect with the style, paired with excellent coffee and chocolate tones. Sitting at 5.6% ABV, it's a more relaxed porter.
How it relates to the game
I can't help but shake this feeling like we're all going to need something comforting on Sunday. Nothing would make me happier than seeing the Panthers play another close game, but from a talent standpoint they are vastly over-matched. To this end I'm looking for a brew I can enjoy all game long.
Where to buy
You can find Green Man ales across the Carolina's in specialty beer stores. Normally found in Growlers, the price ranges between $12-15.
