Here's what the rumor mill is saying about a potential short list of candidates courtesy of Pro Football Talk.
So far, three names have made their way onto the grapevine: former 49ers G.M. Scot McCloughan, Ravens assistant G.M. Eric DeCosta, and Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross.
Ross is one of my leading candidates and a guy we discussed a couple weeks back. The word is DeCosta won't leave Baltimore as many have tried and failed. I can't see the Panthers job being such a plum as to lure him away now. Plus the money might be too high for JR.
McCloughan, who is now in Seattle gets some credit for building the 49ers into a contender. So which do you like best of these three?
