Late Night Drinkin' for the Carolina Panthers

We can all agree that it's been a miserable season for the Panthers this year. Being a late Wednesday night, I decided to pull out my Telecaster, revved up my music library, poured myself some Maker's Mark on ice and began to reminisce. Take that as a disclaimer as I am no longer liable for whatever I write.

Hank Williams - I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry:

It seems like forever since the Panthers were relevant that it seems as if fans of the other teams have flat out forgot about us. Living in San Diego, this only exacerbates the situation as locals complain of Phillip Rivers and Company while I drown in my own misfortune. Alone.

Hank Williams - I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You):

Drowning in the plethora of Charger complaints, I reminisce of the good ol' days. One in particular stands out as I picture Jake Delhomme throwing that game winning pass to Dante Rosario. Such a great feeling! I know I shouldn't be thinking of the Ragin' Cajun and I should remember the endless interceptions but hey, I can't help it if I'm still in love with you...

Waylon Jennings - The Wurlitzer Prize (I Don't Want To Get Over You):

As I continue to walk down memory lane, I dream of the "What if" scenarios. What if Dan Morgan stayed healthy all of those years? What if Julius Peppers and Kris Jenkins retired as Panthers? What if Sam Mills Jr. could be here to energize our talented, yet misguided team. This is starting to hurt. A lot. But I'm going to "Keep Pounding" and try my best to move on...

Johnny Cash - A Satisfied Mind:

That initial glass of Maker's Mark has been refilled a plenty and though sinful thoughts fill my mind, I'm still able to keep my morals. I imagine the Panther's moving to Los Angeles. How awesome it would be for West Coast Panther Fans! However, as convenient as it would be for me, I know deep in my heart that the team belongs nowhere else but in the Carolinas. I can be openly honest of the jealousy I have for Green Bay, Dallas, and Oakland fans who have fans just about anywhere. To me, though, there's something about a franchise that stays real to its values and to its fans. We, as Carolina Panther fans, know damn well who our team is. Whether good or bad. We are the PANTHERS!

Johnny Cash - Sunday Morning Coming Down:

Staring at an empty glass full of half melted ice, I play this song in honor of the coming Sunday. Screw the Bucs. I don't like them and they don't like me. Proven fact. However, every Sunday heartbreak has left its toll on me and I just can't help but feel down when its game time. I'd love to play "The Man In Black" to give me some hope that one day our team will turn around but for now, I'll keep whatever interest I have in this football season by playing the waiver wire on Fantasy Football. Come Sunday, I'll have no expectations. No hope yet no fear. I will, though, have a beer waiting to crack open in honor of my Carolina Panthers. Cheers.
