So What Changes Will We See on the Panthers Special Teams?

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

With Panthers ST team Brian Murphy getting canned Monday morning I immediately wonder what changes we might see with special teams this Sunday against the Bucs. With Rich Rodgers now in charge will we see a complete make over or just some subtle changes? There is one in particular I wan to discuss.

The elephant in the room is will Joe Adams finally get back on the field after being benched after the Giants game? Adams fumbled twice in that game losing one. While I agree you have to be able to trust your PR to protect the ball at this point why not give the kid another chance? Here's my argument:

1 - The Panthers have no one on the roster as electric in the return game as Adams. He easily gives them the best chance to make a big return, just the kind of spark this teams needs this Sunday. Besides please give us fans something to be excited about seeing. I don't know about you but when I see Adams back there ready to receive the punt I get up on my seat waiting to see if he can jitterbug his way down the field.

2 - Since the season is toast anyway why not let the rookie learn under pressure? A PR job is all about handling pressure, making splits decisions and getting a feel for the play as it develops. There is nothing better than live action to forge a rookie PR's mettle.

3 - I don't see this request any different than the decision to keep playing LG Amini Silatolu, who struggled big time in both blow losses. I mean, if you are going to absorb his mistakes why not Adams as well? It's this kind of inconsistency that can create adverse locker room tension.

So there is my case for putting Joe Adams back in to return punts. Anyone else agree?
